Riven - The Sequel To Myst Once again you are wandering around a beautiful deserted landscape, only this time you're not quite so alone, catching the occasional glimpse of an island native off in the distance. Some people find this unsatisfactory: they actually want those people in adventure games who keep saying the same thing to you over and over again, but I love exploring strange deserted worlds, climbing through tunnels and playing with strange machines. Riven is a wonderfully immersive experience; nothing else I've played gives me such a feeling of really being there. Like Myst you are basically just looking at a picture slide show, but Riven has added little animated touches, like bugs flitting around you, and has a few spectacular cut scenes, such as the roller coaster rides from one world to another. Perfect sound, perfect pictures. This was a game I wished would never end.
And if I hadn't cheated, it never would have, because this is one tough game. Sometimes I cheated and thought, I should have solved that, but often I was really glad I cheated because I never would have got it, or it was too tedious to be worthwhile. What can I say, I'm a lazy guy.But there are a lot of puzzles, and I did solve more than I cheated on, and they were darn good puzzles.Riven is also a game that can be a little unfair. They recommend setting the screen to pretty dark, which makes things very pretty and lush, but there are levers in shadows and obscure paths and one button (which you don't need to solve the game but which helps you get around) that is so difficult to find that I doubt one out of a hundred adventurers find it without help. Even if you know where it is you can barely see it.

Company of Heroes brought new life into the RTS market for me last year. Relic created the truly complete package with spectacular sound, visuals, single player, and multiplayer gameplay. Relic has certainly tried to maintain the level of glory they attained in the original Company of Heroes and have done a very good job. It may not be quite as big a breakthrough (in fact it basically provides the same core game with new toys) or provide that same punch in the nuts impact but it is more hectic World War II strategy fun. That same fast-paced in your face style of play permeates Opposing Fronts and we’re very glad to have it back.

Insane is the only 4x4 racing game to date that truly offers a sense of the freedom and the chaos, found in real-life off-road racing.
Although the Monster Truck series and other similar games have been successful in conveying certain aspects of the off-road experience, they have failed to truly deliver a sense of exploration. Instead, these games keep you on a direct route to a checkpoint or a finish line with little freedom to find alternate routes.
INSANE 4X4 Developed by Hungary-based Invictus, Insane offers a wide array of features to complement the off-road racing experience. One of the more intriguing features is the jamboree mode where you must race to multiple checkpoints and place first as many times as possible in order to win the race. This may sound easy enough, but in fact, the jamboree mode requires a surprising degree of strategy.
Insane includes a number of other modes that require the same line of thinking but with added twists. In keep the flag mode, a flag is placed near the starting line of a track and after the signal is given, you must quickly race to pick up the flag and drive to the first checkpoint. Strategy is also important here - you need to find safe routes to each checkpoint or risk serious damage to your car, which in turn could give your opponents an opportunity to seize the flag and continue with the race. Of course, if you lose the flag to an opposing car, your strategy may change entirely as you frantically race to regain the stolen item.
Insane also offers a more traditional off-road racing experience with its off-road race mode. Like Monster Truck Madness, you're given a number of checkpoints along a defined route; however, it's still possible to take advantage of Insane's enormous levels and take small shortcuts in between each checkpoint.
Cars and GraphicsThere are 20 different cars in Insane, ranging from small dune buggies to large 4x4s to enormous military vehicles. You can even customize certain aspects of these cars from the paint color to the finer details such as breaking, steering, and suspension, or you can select from three preset configurations. In the quick-race mode, you can select the track you want to drive on and the time of day, you race. Though it might seem like just an added visual feature, the time of day can actually have a noticeable impact on your race. It's much easier to see certain objects during the day than it is at night, so you'll have to drive much more cautiously during night races even though your vehicle is equipped with headlights. The number of opponents and checkpoints in the quick race mode can also be altered.
